Strong Alone, Unstoppable Together
Our Commitment at Stevens High School Track & Field
At Stevens High School, our track and field teams are driven by a powerful motto: "Strong Alone, Unstoppable Together." This belief doesn’t just guide us during competitions; it inspires our commitment to supporting each other through life’s challenges, both on and off the track.
Why We Wear Pink and Carolina Blue
At various meets throughout the season, you’ll notice our athletes donned in pink and Carolina blue uniforms. These vibrant colors, significantly different from our regular gear, are chosen with intention. They are not merely to stand out visually but to symbolize our solidarity with those facing significant challenges, encompassing both physical and mental health issues.
Our kids and coaches, along with their families—and so many others—face a wide range of hardships, many of which we will never fully know. These challenges include struggles with mental health, cancer, loss of loved ones, divorce, bullying, Alzheimer’s, and more. Through these colors, we aim to remind everyone that no one has to face these battles alone.
Our Vision
These distinctive uniforms do more than set us apart—they spark dialogue and build awareness. By wearing these colors, we aim to remind everyone of the strength that comes from unity and the unstoppable force we create through mutual support. Each competition where we showcase these colors is an opportunity to bring attention to our "Strong Alone, Unstoppable Together" platform, emphasizing that while we may be powerful as individuals, our true strength lies in our collective support and unity.
Join Us in Our Cause
Every race, every jump, and every throw in these colors is a tribute to individuals battling life’s hardest challenges. We invite our athletes, coaches, and community supporters to embrace our motto fully. Recognize that while we are strong alone, together, we are truly unstoppable.
We encourage you to learn more about our initiatives and join us in spreading this powerful message. Together, we are more than just a team seeking victories; we are a community striving for the greater good.
Thank you for your support. Let’s rise together. Together, we are unstoppable.
Pink & Carolina Blue Bracelets for Brynn
As we celebrate the spirit of competition at each of our meets, we also take a moment to honor a truly remarkable individual from Stevens High School, Brynn Nelson. Brynn was a two-time state champion in the javelin during her sophomore and junior years, and she holds the state record in this challenging discipline. This year would have marked Brynn’s final season competing in high school track as a senior, a journey cut tragically short. Brynn's spirit and legacy are also part of the reason our athletes wear pink and Carolina blue uniforms (as well as bracelets this year)—to raise awareness and support each other in times of challenge and loss. Let us remember Brynn for her incredible contributions to this sport and our community.
Brynn was a giver.
She gave her all to everyone and everything she encountered. To keep that spirit of giving alive, the Brynn Nelson Memorial Fund has been established through the Black Hills Area Community Foundation. This will award a scholarship to the Gold Medal winner of the girls javelin at the South Dakota State Track & Field meet each year. We are forever grateful for all the contributions that have made this possible.
