About the Raider Track & Field

“The Blue & Silver Standard”

 (DIFFERENT - NOTICEABLE - APPEALING)

The Raider Track & Field team is devoted to being a team of significance by helping create great memories, lifetime friendships and a legacy of excellence.

The first step to creating a team of significance is to have guiding principles or what we callcore covenants”. We call them covenants because a covenant is such a strong word – it is more than a promise. A promise is a statement made with every intention of seeing it through sometime in the future.

A covenant goes far beyond a promise or having a “slogan” or “theme” for the season. It’s a binding agreement where you can see visible action. It has two parts to its meaning: 1) a binding agreement   2) where action is physically visible.

The first part talks about an agreement made in advance that holds you together in good times and in bad. It’s what we stand for – our standards. Covenants set us apart. They are the cornerstones, identity and guiding principles. They are non-negotiable and are character-based choices such as integrity, respect, effort and responsibility. By keeping our focus and reinforcement on controllable factors like these character traits, we can hold the standards extremely high.

The second part of the definition is what gives the word “covenant” real power. Your actions are visible. This takes the agreement beyond words to an actual vision of performance. It says, “This is what we believe, so therefore, this is what you will see.” We develop action statements for what these covenants will look like in the community, in school, at practice and at track meets.

The core covenants of the Raider Track & Field team are listed below. We call our core covenants "Making CHAMPION Choices" and use the acronym ASPIRE.
